Got up too early after the night before and packed up the bags. Left the city to visit one of the country summer palaces. Peterhof was built for Peter the Great and is a spectacular palace and gardens on the Gulf of Finland. There are numerous ornate fountains everywhere and a smaller house that Peter used to lve in that houses many of the things he made himself. He was quite a clever chap, was fluent in eight languages and was trained in many different trades, studied ship building in the Netherlands and took this knowledge back to create Russia's first navy.
The train wasn't leaving until nearly midnight so went to a lovely resturant (Zoom) back in town for food and drinks, full meals only cost two or three pounds in here and were excellent.
Then the train adventure started with an over night to Moscow. The three of us shared a cabin with a Russion man. I nodded off when he was still reading his book so I was started in the night when I awoke to see a big shiny white arse staring at me from the other bed!! Not nice.
Woke up later to find we were pulling into the capital.
