Having slept like a demon after all the days walking we had a second uncomfortable breakfast before thankfully moving to a different hostel. This involved a good walk and tube with all luggage, was pretty knakered after just doing that. The tube system has to be the deepest in the world, the escalators go on forever and the actual stations are amazing, Transport for London could take a few tips from these guys.
New place very nice, large single sex dorm rooms though which didn't really appeal to me. Met another girl, Kym that would be joining us on the Vodka Train tour. As it turned out she would be the only other person on the tour rather than the 16 people we had been expecting.
Took on some more tourists sites, the Cathedral of the resurection looks like a small St Basls from the outside, inside is breathtaking with the entire wall and ceiling areas covered in detailed mosaics of stories from the bible. When the communists came into power this was used as a store room and was badly damaged but the resotoration is perfect.
Thsi was the fist time we came accross the special foreigners rate for entry into things which could be up to ten times the price of a Russian ticket!! Cheeky.
There seems to be a cathedral for every day of the year, took a look inside the Kazansky one, another amazing building with
endless granite pilars and mosaic floor. This was turned into a museum for religion and atheism during the communist era but is now back to being the main cathedral of the orthadox church.
Had to get back to meet our city guide, Ivan, we had been led to belive he would be an emrgeny contact and would give us a quick tour of the city but it turned out that he stayed with us throughout our stay.
He took us on a quick walk around town, saw the outside of St Isaacs, anouther extremly grand building and decided to take a look inside the next day. Had a traditional Russian meal that evening and then then headed back to bed. The blistors were setting in prety badly by now, especially on Lauren.
