Chinese Rules of the Road

Right of way:

The general rule here is that the larger the person, bicycle, car, bus or lorry the more right of way you poses. Size matters.

Horn:

To be used as often as possible to mean; get out the way, coming through, hello, or to signify that a pedestrian/ bike has made an impression that they may get in the way 200-400m down the road. Busses and lorries by law are required to have a second horn fitted to burst the ear drums of anyone sitting within 100m of them.

Traffic Lights:

Green lights mean continue at a fast rate hoping all other road users miss you, red lights mean continue slightly slower looking out for passing traffic and trying your best to avoid it.

Pedestrian Crossings:

Red man means stop unless you have the local ability to walk across and make all traffic drive around you.

Green man means cross but pay close attention to all vehicles continuing to drive across and around you.

Generally do whatever you need to to keep moving in a forward direction without hitting anything.

Needless to say we've seen several accidents in our short stay.
